From the Archives: Notes on You are What You Wear

Hey. I’m MG and this is Outfluencer. You can stop reading now if you want but it would be cool if you didn’t.

I could write out a lengthy, wordy, pretentious post on how I started Outfluencer while pursuing my Masters degree at Parsons and why I believe so strongly in it but….ew. Instead I’ll leave you with this. I’ve done the art school thing, i’ve done the corporate fashion thing, and i’ve done the influencer thing and what i’ve come to find is that - like most things in life - they all make me feel like shit about who I actually am. They also make me feel (even more) lost about my 24 soon to be 25 year old self. Outfluencer emerged because I was feeling an absolute disconnect from everyone around me. Some days I still feel this way and that feeling sucks but I know that I am not alone. Maybe disconnect isn’t the right word.

Collectively, we all share fear around authenticity. Do you know who you are? I built this platform as a space where we can all come together for absolutely no reason at all. We’re all human, that in itself is means for celebration. There doesn’t need to be a specific reason for you to create, express and share your art or your passions. As i’ve developed this space more and more i’ve decided that defining Outfluencer would be to limit it’s potential. Defining who you are limits your potential. Outfluencer isn’t any certain thing or person, Outfluencer is everything. It’s an exploration into who we are, who we were, who we want to be and most important why we want to be that version of ourselves.

So WELCOME, enjoy, click around and if nobody has told you recently, I am proud of you.

iloveyou.
